Okay, we\u2019re going to have to admit that this is a pretty good question.<\/p>\n

Air conditioners can freeze in the middle of summer no matter what the temperature outside is, and that causes many to scratch their heads. Fortunately, there is a reasonable explanation that HVAC school will most definitely prepare you for. \"HVACWe\u2019re going to discuss two major reasons for which you will end up with a frozen AC unit<\/a>, and you will probably run into both of them on your service calls after graduation. Reason 1: Improper Airflow<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The first reason we\u2019re going to explore is of improper airflow. The cold coil needs to be kept as warm as possible and this requires proper airflow. If the airflow is not satisfactory, the warm air from the house will not flow over the coil and it will freeze before the condensation can run off. The condensation is then frozen, and it creates the \u2018ball of ice\u2019 that you commonly see on air conditioning units.<\/p>\n

In this case, the best knowledge that you can give them is to keep their airways unobstructed and their filters cleaned. Filters sit, obviously, at the front of the unit and can be replaced easily. Reason 2: Faulty Thermostats <\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

A faulty thermostat will cause the home to be improperly cooled and will ultimately use a lot more electricity. This imbalance can definitely lead to frozen coils and will once again call for service.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, improperly functioning thermostats will have less to do with the thermostat unit itself and much more to do with the condition of the entire system.
