It\u2019s a technical college study and degree that provides both hands-on training and theory on state-of-the-art equipment. Students also practice with working processes and computerized control systems that simulate real business and industry practices.<\/p>\n<p>The Instrumentation and <em>Systems Automation Society<\/em> defines <em>instrumentation<\/em> as \u201ca collection of instruments and their application for the purpose of observation, measurement, and control.\u201d It is also the branch of engineering that works with measurement and control. Students are prepared for entry-level jobs through hands-on training skills and the acquisition of technical knowledge. A strong program consists of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The design, manufacture, installation, and maintenance of control systems<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring variables such as flow, level, temperature, and pressure<\/li>\n<li>Measuring the equipment that is designed to regulate these applications<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating with instrumentation engineers and plant operators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This training mirrors the actual work technicians do on the job for manufacturing and processing plants.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>As a Business and Industry Application <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Instrument technicians work with engineers in chemical, manufacturing, petroleum, and other industries to accomplish several significant tasks, including:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/impactwindowswholesaler.com\/iticollege\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Instrument-Controls-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: left; padding-right: 30px;\" src=\"https:\/\/impactwindowswholesaler.com\/iticollege\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Instrument-Controls-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"Control Systems\" width=\"357\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conceptualize and design instruments and control systems<\/li>\n<li>Inspect, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot these systems<\/li>\n<li>Work to make safety the first priority for clients and the industry<\/li>\n<li>Technicians measure instruments for electrical, automated, and pneumatic equipment<\/li>\n<li>They typically work toward goals of improving productivity, reliability, stability, safety, and optimization of processes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Technicians also work to control electronic devices and equipment with microprocessors and microcontrollers or PLCs to keep systems running accurately and efficiently. Virtually all of these factories and plants <em>need new technicians<\/em> to meet the growing demand as well as replace retiring baby boomers. These 11 industries are currently growing (not ranked):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Aerospace \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lumber<\/li>\n<li>Automobiles\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Mining (excluding coal mining)<\/li>\n<li>Chemicals\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Petroleum<\/li>\n<li>Consumer Goods\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Steel<\/li>\n<li>Electronics\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Telecommunication<\/li>\n<li>Food Processing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As a side note, the United States <em>leads world production<\/em> in airplane manufacturing. Many of these industries are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/forbesbusinesscouncil\/2021\/02\/09\/seven-reasons-why-us-manufacturing-is-on-the-rise\/?sh=7f963de55c0e\">growing<\/a> because they are eliminating the middlemen and delivering their goods directly to customers to meet the worldwide demand. Other reasons include consumer loyalty and support, overall affordable energy costs, and automation. Add them all up, and you can see a great future for Instrument and Control Systems Technicians.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Industries That Are Slowing <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Unfortunately, at the same time some industries are thriving, others are slowing down due to either lack of demand or lower prices on imported goods.
